HURRICANE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- New businesses are popping up around the city of Hurricane.

According to Mayor Scott Edwards, a new camping center, outdoors store and used car lot are setting up shop.

Burdette Camping opened up a retail center right across the street from Court Motors. The company's headquarters is based in Winfield.

Edwards tells WSAZ.com The Martin Group, that owns the former Hurricane Chevrolet property, plans to open an outdoor center along Interstate 64. The new center will have RVs, ATVs and other outdoor products.

There's no word on when the outdoor center will open. WSAZ.com has a call into the company to get more information about the construction plans.

Edwards also tells WSAZ.com Thrifty Car Rentals is opening a lot at the former Saturn location. The company will sale its rental cars at this location.

Meanwhile, NAPA Auto Parts in Hurricane is closing its current location and moving outside the city limits.

Edwards says the company is building a much bigger store along Teays Valley Road.

"I'm happy that NAPA is building a new location," Edwards said. "It will give people in the area better options. I'm just glad NAPA is staying in Putnam County."

I am very happy for Hurricane but such a pity that Thrifty Car Rental is coming too. I have had such a terrible experience with them that it almost feels that they will lower the value of any progress that Hurricane is making.
