CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- West Virginia teenagers who tan may have to get permission from their parents to tan indoors in the future.
On Wednesday, the West Virginia Senate passed a bill that would require tanners between 14 and 18 to have written permission from their parents before using a tanning lamp or booth.
The bill would also require teens younger than 14 to be accompanied by a parent or guardian if they tan.
The bill now heads to the House.

I think its absolutely ridiculous that gov. is putting all blame on tanning salons with causing cancer.. How can you soley blame a tanning salon when you are not for certain how long someone was exposed to natural sun, do they lay out, do they go swimming, are they out in the sun more than an hour a day .. etc etc etc .. the list goes on and on .. but yet its completely blamed on tanning indoors. So many people do not realize that tanning indoors you get a moderate dose of uv and its control. There are so many greater things to worry about in this economic hardship, then to worry about tanning.. Good god people .. WAKE UP and DO SOMETHING BETTER WITH YOUR TIME !!!!

They pass a bill on 3/3/10 that has been in effect for 10 yrs according to the comment section. Do they do this every 10 yrs or what? According to studies tanning beds DO cause cancer, also studies were done on breast cancer. Tanning beds can cause eye damange. If you bann smoking why not ban teens from tanning beds if you are concerned about Health Problems & their is with tanning beds. Just like smoking you don't see the damage until it is to late! How Stupid! When damages happen and parents DID NOT SIGN THEIR NAME, it will be said it was up to the OWNERS to ID these teens and to contact the parents to sign their names and explain damages that tanning beds can do. Some teens stay in beds to long if it is Doctor Proven A BIG LAW SUIT is waiting to happen!!! Think about it! WV law says you are a minor until 18. ID should be required in tannig beds, bad for you just like cir & alcohol for minors. Again, what was the purpose of this bill into law?

To JB, I am a life long Conservative, and I abhor any new taxes. I am also a smoker and I am sick and tired of the folks increasing tobacco taxes. It's about time they socked it to the "vain" people who have been all over the smokers. I think they should tax tanning salons and cosmetic surgery to fund this dag gone health care bill they are trying to ram down our throats. This would be better than increasing medicare taxes.
