SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Folks in a South Charleston apartment building will soon be getting a notice to move out for an urban renewal project.

The city of South Charleston voted Thursday night to buy the Tremont Apartments in the Rosemont area of the city for $400,000.

Once the transaction is complete next week, tenants will have 60 days to find a new place to live.

The current owner of the property will have 90 days to remove any personal property.

Neighbors around the complex say it has been a haven for drug activity over the past few years.

Mayor Frank Mullens says he wants to get feedback from the community on what will be the best plan for the property once the city takes it over.

None of the "social engineering" projects have been successful. Typically they are a blight on the community in which they are built. People that have no investment in their own living quarters are ever going to treat it with any respect.

Do not build more apartments for the drugs to take back over. Do something for the neighborhood, like a park for the kids, or something.
