'World of Wheels' Rolls into Huntington

Updated: Fri 8:25 PM, Mar 05, 2010

HUNTINGTON, W.Va (WSAZ) -- Ladies and gentleman, start your engines!

The World of Wheels show has shifted into overdrive at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena in downtown Huntington. World of Wheels showcases local antique and specialty cars for auto enthusiasts around the country.

Barbara Blatt remembers when she first set her eyes on her 1964 Chevrolet convertible.

"Oh, my heart was really beating,” she says. "It's just something you really fall in love with. It's like just like you have an animal and you fell in love with dogs. Well, I fell in love with cars."

This year’s show has more than 150 vehicles on display. It’s also paying tribute to Earl Davis, a longtime supporter of the show, who passed away in late January after a short battle with cancer.

"It’s just not the same," his widow Jerry says.

She, along with Richard and Jo Wheeler, have really been the backbone of this show for more than a generation.

"I can't hardly put it into words," Jerry says. "Earl was a special guy and his cars were special. We'll all miss him. He's up there doing car shows. We'll see him again.”

The World of Wheels runs through Sunday, March 7, at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena. Admission is $7 for adults and $3.50 for children under 12. The show is free for children 3 and under.
