CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- West Virginia's Legislature has less than a week to decide the fate of proposals targeting abortion, corporate political spending and prescription drug abuse.

Other surviving measures that caught fire during the regular session would change who can perform laser eye surgery, and bolster the state's substance abuse treatment programs.

The bulk of Gov. Joe Manchin's agenda also remains pending as the House and Senate count down toward Saturday's midnight finale.

Lawmakers have sent only a dozen bills to the governor. More than 300 others remain in play following Wednesday's deadline for legislation to cross over from one chamber to the other.

Given the still-fragile economy, few if any of these propose major changes to taxes, spending or public policy.

Is it just me but they always end up in a crunch at the end of a session but never seem to get anything done.

Abortion is MURDER...no way around it, no way to bend the truth about it...you lawmakers need to do what you said you were going to do with this topic when you where asking for votes....Also, drug abuse, it is sad that people in this state and surrounding states are moving away so there kids may have a better chance of not being a pill head...Clean up the state and clean up the one's responsible for issuing the pills. It is sad when someone is on TV talking about getting 1000 pills a month and listing the doctors that are issuing them and we can't seem to catch the "one's responsible." Come on, SERIOUSLY?

it's about time they changed the rules for a full time legislature. If these so called public servants (as many say they rrun to serve the people not for personal agenda) let them do it full time. If they really want to help do it without pay as a service to the people!! This will never happen..
