LOGAN, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Voters in Logan County voted overwhelmingly Saturday to pass the countywide safety levy.
1,334 votes came in for the levy and only 98 people voted against it. Only 60% of the vote was needed to win and they got it with 94% percent of the vote.
The levy won't put an extra burden on taxpayers. It will supply $14 million to emergency services in Logan County over the next five years.

In Logan County, we have one of the best ambulance services in the state of West Virginia. We also have great fire departments in this county. I would never not vote for this levy. I can remember in the 60's when the funeral homes in Logan County responded to emergencies with no equipment in the ambulances. My mother had a heart attack and died as the result of the ambulance care back in the 60's in Logan County. I certainly don't want to go back to those days. I don't care if my taxes does raise a little bit. I travel throughout WV and some of the areas still have second rate ambulance and fire services because the county will not pass a levy. How stupid can people get?

1) It was very well publicized. 2) They could have had it in the middle of the week rather than a Saturday-and this year weather was not an excuse. 3) Are you naive enough to believe that taxes would actually decrease if a levy like this were voted down?

Looks like the govt sneeks by again with a levy. WOW! 94% voted for it, but look how many people voted. Why didn't they wait until the primary election, guess they might have been afraid it wouldn't pass if more people came out to vote. Many communities do this on purpose, its not like the vote couldn't have waited a few months. It's a shame that so few people felt the need to vote, probably emergency personnel and their families and friends got this one through. To say it won't put a burden on taxpayers is simply untrue. You don't raise 14 Million dollars n a levy without a burden on someone. At a minumum it incurs a debt that taxpayers must repay; much like our national debt. I'm not saying that emergency services are not important service, but what are the NEEDS versus the most advanced equipment, new vehicles, etc. that would be nice to have. WE have to stop this mad spending somewhere.
