CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A Charleston lawyer faces up to five years behind bars after he pleaded guilty in court Monday.
Joshua Robinson was set to go on trial Monday, but he decided to plead guilty to unlawful wounding.
Prosecutors say he stole $1,000 from his client, David Gump II, then beat him with a baseball bat when Gump confronted him about the money.
He was indicted on charges back in March.
Last month Robinson failed to make 10% of his $25,000 bond, so the judge raised his bond to $50,000 cash only. Robinson never posted the bond so he has spent the last few weeks in jail.
During the hearing Monday, the judge lowered Robinson's bond to a $10,000 personal recognize bond. Robinson will now remain on home confinement until his sentencing.
The judge lowered Robinson's bond because he was attacked in jail and has been in protective custody ever since.
Robinson is set to be sentenced on May 27.
Earlier this year, the State Supreme Court suspended Robinson's law license.

Robinson pleaded not guilty to two counts of embezzlement, one count of obstructing justice and one count of malicious wounding.
He is also facing a new felony charge of failure to appear.

ORIGINAL STORY
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- An attorney from Charleston who is accused of beating up his client is expected to go on trial next month.
Joshua Robinson was in court Monday to be arraigned on the charges.
Robinson was indicted last month on a charge of embezzlement for allegedly stealing $1,000 from his client David Gump II. He is also facing a malicious wounding charge for allegedly beating Gump with a baseball bat.
Robinson was indicted on malicious assault, embezzlement, fiduciary embezzlement and obstructing. He pleaded not guilty to those charges on Monday.
Robinson still doesn't have an attorney. His arraignment was postponed last week because he was still in the process of hiring someone. However, Robinson told the judge on Monday he would represent himself until he hires an attorney.
Prosecutors also told the judge Robinson has a criminal history. Robinson has been convicted of two misdemeanors in Kentucky.
"He took a propane tank and threw it through a back window of a car," Assistant Prosecutor Fred Giggenbach said. "He broke the window out with a child inside the car. His wife wrecked the vehicle."
This was a felony case, but Robinson pleaded down to misdemeanors, according to prosecutors.
"The misdemeanor charges have been characterized out of context, but they are what they are," Robinson said. "I appeared on those charges and was sentenced to unsupervised probation."
The judge gave Robinson until 4 p.m. to post a $25,000 bond or 10 percent cash. He will then be on home confinement until his trial.
Robinson's trial was set for April 19.
After the hearing ended, Robinson was served with a domestic violence protection order from a family member. According to court records, they have been trying to serve Robinson for three months. The order was out of Fayette County, Ky., which is in the Lexington area.
