CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- West Virginia lawmakers are moving toward outlawing the video version of raffle games.
The House Judiciary Committee amended and advanced a Senate-passed bill Monday that would make it a felony for charitable gambling to feature electronic or mechanical devices.
The legislation follows last year's raid of a Harrison County Elks Lodge, where authorities seized 144 video-enhanced raffle ticket dispensing machines.
Lodge 482 has since gone to court with state regulators over whether such devices violate state law.
While addressing that law, the pending bill has been amended to apply only to machines possessed after July 1.
House Judiciary also tweaked the measure to ensure it did not include such equipment as drums for drawing numbers.
