WINFIELD, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Drivers in Putnam County are feeling relieved now that the Winfield Bridge has re-opened.
The bridge had been closed since April for renovations.
Friday officials cut the ribbon at the foot of the bridge for the re-opening ceremony.
The Department of Highways opened the bridge a week ahead of schedule.
Over the past few months crews painted, repaired the deck, and added a sidewalk.
One lane of the bridge will be closed periodically during the next few weeks as crews apply some finishing touches.

WINFIELD, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for 1 p.m. Friday August 13th. The public is invited to attend. Parking is available at Winfield Elementary School. In case of rain, the event will be held at the Putnam County Courthouse.
UPDATE: Wednesday, 7/28/10 4:15 p.m.
WINFIELD, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- After months of construction the Winfield Bridge is going to re-open a week early.
Department of Transportation spokesman Brent Walker told WSAZ.com this afternoon that the bridge will now re-open August 13th.
The orginial re-opening date was August 20th.
Walker said, good work by contractors and nice weather combined to allow the work to be finished early.
Walker says the contractor is getting a bonus for finishing early, but that money was built into the contract.
The DOH is planning a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the bridge's reopening, but the details have not been set just yet.
ORIGINAL STORY
WINFIELD, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Starting Monday night, drivers in Putnam County probably noticed some delays on the Winfield Bridge.
Construction crews closed one lane of the bridge at about 9 p.m. Monday, which will reopen at 6 a.m. Tuesday. That's so workers can paint and repair parts of the bridge.
One lane of the bridge will be closed every night this week. The bridge will close completely on April 5 and reopen Aug. 20.

To Jim and IW - I agree with Jim. If ironworkers would have been on the job, they might be on strike now for more pay. The union workers need to wake up and realize that they are a major problem when thinking about the work being made available to US citizens. Lets drive more work to other countries that are happy to get a job and support their families. Union workers have the mentality of welfare folk- they feel entitled to get everything for nothing. Lets get a clue here folks, these companies are in busines to make money. That does not make them greedy or bad - that is what they are in it for. That plant in Jackson County should have closed just to show those ignorant fools what could have happened. I am proud to say that I work for all that I have and feel that I am entitled to nothing more than I recieve. I do not complain about my job and I take is serious. I earn a fair wage for a good day of work. Union folk can not say that. They earn fair pay for nothing.
To the post of "IW" If it was union who knows how many years it would have taken to get that done.
I thought the bridge was opening at 1:00 pm so I came through at 2:30 and they still had it closed for a ceremony!! So I had to turn around and go the long way back to Eleanor again!!Who cares about a ceremony just open it!! It's not like it's a brand new bridge, just repaired!! ANyway glad I don't have to make that long drive from Eleanor to Winfield anymore!!HOORAY!!
