FLATWOODS, Ky (WSAZ) -- In the current economy, the idea of quitting your job may sound insane, but if you have a hobby you can turn into cash it might not be a bad idea.
While millions of Americans are fighting the pink slip, Max Jividen of Flatwoods, is fixing iPhones. He hung up his hat at his former job -- now he writes his own paychecks.
"I get to stay at home and watch my baby," Jividen said. "Instead of working eight hours, five days a week, I get to work six days a week for about an hour a day."
Jividen says he has always been good with computers, so it just made sense to do this and get paid for it. He says his customers are always happy.
"I haven't had one customer yet that wasn't," Jividen said.
Jividen said choosing to quit his job in this economy was easy for him, but -- for those Americans who make up the 9.7 percent national average of the unemployed -- not so much.
In Jividen's home state of Kentucky, the unemployment rate comes in at 10.7 percent. In Ohio, the number is 10.9 percent. At 9.1 percent, the number is slightly better in West Virginia.
President Barack Obama says these are still tough times, but the fact that the national average is trickling instead of continuing to hemorrhage is a sign of things to come.
"It shows that the measures that we're taking to turn out economy around are having some impact," Obama said.
In Jividen's home, the unemployment rate is the furthest thing from anyone's mind. Jividen is making about $65 an hour these days -- and he gets to be a stay-at-home dad. That's all thanks to a hobby that has really paid off.

I think this is a great story. Way to go, WSAZ, I'm sick of hearing about all the young people doing drugs, getting in trouble, going to jail. Here's a young person that can serve as an example-a positive one! Good luck with your business Max!
How can I get in contact with Max?
Congrats Max, Iam happy for you, and haters get a LIFE
