ASHLAND, Ky. (WSAZ) -- For a child living in foster care, life can be a lonely road.
Many of the teens who WSAZ.com's Carrie Cline works with can attest to that. Even though they're often living in foster homes full of love, they still feel like an outsider looking in.
Tiffany, our most recent youth featured on "Carrie's Kids," talks about the years she's spent bouncing around and how she desperately wants a family to call her own to provide some much needed stability.
Following is a conversation between Carrie and Tiffany:
TIFFANY: My mom passed away when I was 3. Then, I went to live with my first grandmother, and she passed away when I was 9. Then, I went to live with my second grandmother, and she passed away when I was 11. Then, I went to live with my dad, and he got into trouble. Then, I went to live with my sister and she couldn't take care of me, so I got put into foster care when I was 13.
CARRIE: How tough has that been?
TIFFANY: It's been really tough, but I've had people along the way who cared and tried to make me happy and put me in a good place.
CARRIE: What do you like to do for fun?
TIFFANY: I like to play volleyball and I like to read.
CARRIE: What kinds of books do you like to read?
TIFFANY: Romantic fiction.
CARRIE: What about school? What's your favorite subject?
TIFFANY: Pre-algebra
CARRIE: Really? I don't think I've ever talked to a child who said that.
TIFFANY: I love math.
CARRIE: What do you want to be when you grow up?
TIFFANY: A registered nurse in a nursing program.
CARRIE: Why do you want to be adopted?
TIFFANY: Because I want to be able to have a permanent place that I can call my home forever.
CARRIE: Why is that important?
TIFFANY: Because I've always been in foster care, and there are other kids there. So, I can't call it my own home because it's their home, too. I'd like to (live) where I can be the only child and have a mom and dad who will love and support me.
CARRIE: What is your perfect family?
TIFFANY: I'd like someone laid back and not too strict, but someone who is loving, who won't let me run the streets, but someone who will always be there.
CARRIE: What is the neatest thing about Tiffany?
TIFFANY: I'm good at math and I like to have fun and I'm a good friend and I get along with people really well.
Tiffany also describes herself as helpful. She has a very sweet personality. You can hear it in her voice that she has a gentle spirit and positive outlook on everything, despite all of the loss she's endured.
Tiffany also loves Halloween -- it happens to be her birthday.
