Local Emergency Responder Heading Back to Haiti
A local EMT was in Haiti during the peak time of U.S. aid just a few weeks ago. But he's already planning a return trip back next month.

MASON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A local emergency medical technician (EMT) was in Haiti during the peak time of U.S. aid just a few weeks ago.
But he's already planning a return trip back next month. Why? Because he says the need is great and he can help fill it.
"Two days after the earthquake, I knew I needed to be there," Nick Miller said.
Miller thrives under pressure. He fights fires and tends to medical emergencies for the Valley Volunteer Fire Department in Mason County. He's also an EMT for the local EMS. So, soon after the earthquake in Haiti, he knew he had to go help.
"I knew I could be of help in one of those field hospitals somewhere," he said.
A week after pursuing the idea, Nick was in Haiti. As soon as his team arrived, they were greeted with some sobering statistics.
There are millions in Haiti, and that earthquake only lasted for 18 seconds. Within 18 seconds, approximately 750,000 were dead or wounded.
But, for the hundreds helped during the week Miller was there, the experiences run deep.
In the end, Miller says even their trip out of Haiti turned into a special event with a chance meeting with Franklin Graham and an unexpected flight on his plane back to the U.S.
"It really did change me because I learned we have a lot of blessings here, and they’re in need of so many things there," Miller said.
He is planning to head back to Haiti just after Easter for another two weeks.
