GADSDEN, Ala. (AP) - A Jacksonville, Ala. teenager has waived extradition from West Virginia in the shooting death of a Gadsden teen, and police in Gadsden say they expect him back by the end of the week.
Gadsden Police Sgt. Tom Bradley says the 17-year-old appeared before a judge in West Virginia this week.
Police say a murder warrant has been obtained for the teen, who will be charged as an adult in the March 7 shooting of 17-year-old Chris "Ceno" Hoyt.
Bradley says Gadsden officers will go to West Virginia to get the teen and bring him back. He will be held in the Etowah County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.
Hoyt was shot soon after leaving a party about 12:45 a.m. March 7.
UPDATE: 6pm Friday
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- WVMT in Birmingham, Ala., reports that the 17-year-old arrested in Huntington is a suspect in the shooting death of another 17-year-old over the weekend.
Christopher Hoyt was killed early Sunday morning at a party.
Tom Bradley with the Gadsden Police Department says they don't know exactly when the suspect left Alabama, but believe it was within 24 hours of the shooting.
West Virginia State Police officers located the suspect within two hours after finding out he was wanted in connection with the murder.
The teen was found staying at an apartment in Marcum Terrace.
Jane Jones lives two doors down from where the teen stayed.
"I didn’t know what to think," she said. "It’s a good thing they got him."
A West Virginia State Police spokesperson said there were two locations where the teen could be, and officers found him sitting in a living room apartment. Police say the teen saw them through the window and ran upstairs, but then was immediately arrested without incident.
The teen is being held in a juvenile detention center until he'll be sent back to Alabama next week.
