CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- West Virginia's higher education agencies are finally getting the green light to relocate to South Charleston's Technology Park.
The Senate and House of Delegates had each passed versions of the necessary legislation last month, but disagreed over a House amendment.
Following work by a joint conference committee, the two chambers agreed on the House language requiring lawmaker approval before higher ed's technology office could be moved from Monongalia County.
The House voted 78-18 to send the bill to the governor Friday.
The bill would allow the Higher Education Policy Commission and Council for Community and Technical College Education, now in Charleston, to anchor what Gov. Joe Manchin envisions as a public-private research center.

I applaud the new Tech Park and think the growth and development is an asset to the community. Too often I travel the Fairmont/Clarksburg/Morgantown area and see the vast expansion and growth from what seems like one month to the next and wonder, why can't we have that in Charleston? The business-scape in northcentral WV is night-and-day diffrent from Charleston: that area is reminiscent of Raleigh's Research Triangle. I get tired of reading about Danny ("the little boy who would be king") argue to keep agencies in dilapidated old buildings downtown with limited or no parking available, basically inaccessible to visitors and employees alike. A side note: I wonder why WSAZ never covers Danny's girlish tirades, complete with imagined conspiracies and schoolyard bully behavior, as the other stations in town do?
What exactly is a 'Tech Park' and why should we move it?
