LAWRENCE COUNTY, OHIO (WSAZ)-This weekend you lose one hour of sleep. It’s time to spring forward and set clocks ahead one hour. Most people go ahead and do this Saturday night before going to bed.

Local firefighters say this is also a good weekend to go ahead and change the batteries in your smoke detectors.

Interim State Fire Marshal Donald Cooper says everyone should make it a habit to change the batteries in smoke detectors at the beginning and end of daylight saving time.

Marshal Cooper says, "The facts speak clearly. Only a working smoke detector can save your life."

Cooper says so far this year in Ohio, 34 people have died in house fires. He says smoke detectors were only found in 8 of those homes.
