Stiffer Fines for Selling Tobacco to Minors
West Virginia's Legislature has agreed to a weaker version of a measure threatening stiffer fines against those who sell tobacco to minors.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- West Virginia's Legislature has agreed to a weaker version of a measure threatening stiffer fines against those who sell tobacco to minors.
The bill passed Saturday doubles fines against first-offenders to $50, but originally proposed a $100 penalty.
It also doubles fines for minors caught with cigarette-related items to $50 for first offenses and to $100 for second violations. The Senate amended both from higher amounts.
Another provision allows businesses to fire employees for gross misconduct when caught selling or providing tobacco products to minors. That could affect their ability to seek jobless benefits.
The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids estimates that around one-fourth of state teens smoke, and about 3,000 pick up the habit annually.

the kids will get it any way its not the stores selling it to minors it thire parents buying it for them these days i have seen and heard of them buying it for thir kids and leting the drink a beer like it nothing this parents needs locked up and pay more than 50 dollars i wish mine would have still trying to got off the smokeless tobacco
