CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Lawmakers have called on West Virginia's Public Employees Insurance to cover the preexisting health conditions of its enrollees.
Legislation passed Saturday to Gov. Joe Manchin would remove language from state law that has limited coverage of such injuries, illnesses or other conditions.
But the bill also limits when employees can sign up for coverage to when they're hired, during the annual open enrollment period or as permitted under federal tax code.
The House approved the bill 86-10 Saturday, with Republicans opposing the measure. The Senate had unanimously advanced it earlier.

They will just cover less to counter act this change. PEIA is not great insurance coverage as they portray it to be.
To Anonymous: So your child has a preexisting condidition and you have recently begun a job as a WV teacher. You want PEIA to mantain a profit, so you think it just fine that you will have to pay out of pocket for your child's required surgeries, medications, etc., associated with this preexisting condition. Are you nuts?
Anonymous....So what do people with pre-existing conditons do, curl up in a corner and die? Health insurance should be a pool with premiums paid by all citizens just like all other insurances. If you have the right to walk through the doors of a hospital or doctors office you should be paying a health insurance premium otherwise you take advantage of every tax payer. What Obama is trying to do is not sneaky. He has come forward with his health plan for all to see if you care to study it. The last thing an insurance company needs to worry about is a profit. The health care industry and insurance companies are draining our economy and must be stopped. This health care plan is going to open unseen doors for job creation, better health, and lower insurance premiums. Government health insurance already exist for medicare, medicaid and veterans. They don't complain much and try to take their coverage and you will find trouble. Why would you slam our President like this?
