UPDATE 7/28/10 @ 4 p.m.
CHARLESTON, W. Va. (WSAZ) – A Logan business owner and former school board member is headed to prison for tax evasion.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Alison M. Lambert, 43 of Man was sentenced Wednesday to 12 months and one day in prison for tax evasion during a hearing in U.S. District Court in Charleston.
In April, Lambert pleaded guilty to evading the payment of taxes on cash income generated from restaurant, bar and motel businesses she owned in Man, West Virginia.
According to court documents, from 2004 to 2008, Lambert failed to report nearly $1 million in cash income derived from her businesses which were operating under the name Colonial Room Motel and Restaurant.
In addition to her prison sentence, Lambert was also ordered to pay restitution to the Internal Revenue Service in the amount of $256,092.51. Lambert was additionally ordered to pay a $10,000 fine.
Lambert, a former member of the Logan County Board of Education, resigned that position in April 2010 following the entry of her guilty plea.
ORIGINAL STORY 3/14/10
LOGAN, W.Va. (AP) -- A member of the Logan County school board is facing a federal tax evasion charge.
A court document says Allison Lambert filed a false income tax return in 2009. While her return listed her 2008 taxable income was $168,995, the document says Lambert knew the amount was substantially higher.
Likewise, the document says she also paid less money in taxes than she should have.
Lambert declined to comment about the charge to the Logan Banner newspaper. However, she was charged in a document called an information, which can't be filed without a defendant's consent and typically signals cooperation with prosecutors.
Lambert did say that she hasn't decided whether she'll resign. The Man resident's term ends this year and she is not seeking re-election.

What does it matter what political party....what about the drug dealers that get a slap on the wrist and told after the 50th time, "If you do this one more time", what about the theives that steal everything that the working person has, "The next time you get caught", what about the murderer that gets a slap on the wrist for taking someones life, and finally, what about the child molesters and abusers that get out of jail/prison for good behavior. We have so many children in foster care that there aren't even enough homes to place them in...My thought is that we need to put some of those parents in jail. As for this situation, let her pay the money back and be done with it. Who cares whether or not she is democrat or republican? I just think that there are other issues more pressing than this where people should be given jail time....Allison is not a threat to people or society.
Gee, Roger...most likely a "fine upstanding Democrat." Go figure; southern WV, Board of Education, crook...
Board members are not associated with a particular party they are supposed to be unaffiliated when they serve on a school board
