UPDATE at 11pm
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A downed powerline cut off the main supply of power to downtown Huntington Monday night at about 6:30.
American Power's sub-station behind the Marshall University parking garage, which supplies most of downtown's power, affecting nearly 3,000 customers.
Power to most customers was restored at about 8:00 PM -- by 11:30 PM, only 500 customers were without. All power was restored by the early morning hours.
ORIGINAL STORY
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Power is reported out Monday evening throughout much of downtown Huntington because of high-voltage lines down in the vicinity of 2nd Avenue and 19th Street, a Cabell County 911 dispatcher says.
Several downtown businesses were without electricity, and traffic lights also are out at multiple intersections.
When the power outage was reported just before 7 p.m., there also were reports of a possible structure fire at Highlawn Place in Huntington, as well as several power lines on fire throughout East Huntington.
It is unknown exactly how many customers are without power.

wsaz really needed to send a film crew out? LOL why didnt they use those resources to get more details into the original story? Like, what caused the outage (still have no idea, other than lines were down, but what downed them?), they contaced someone to find out 2000 were without power but didnt ask an estimate for when it would be restored? This is POOR reporting at its finest!
i don't know about everyone else but i'm sick of getting charge out the skin and in charleston our power has been off 22 times since sept 09 thats sick
It was a scary experience driving through Huntington when there was no street lamps, stop lights, house / building lights, etc... Even with other car lights and my own lights, it was nearly impossible to drive in that.
