Athens, OH (WSAZ-TV) -- There is a buzz floating around Athens this week, and it has to do the city's beloved Bobcats. The Ohio University men's basketball team is heading back to the NCAA tournament for the 12th time in school history.
For students like Whitney Spicer, the Bobcats big win is just what the town needed, especially during finals week on campus.
"It was really exciting," Spicer said. "It's what OU needed. Some sports enthusiasm from everyone on campus."
Spicer, who works at the College Bookstore, says OU gear is now flying off the shelves and students are proudly displaying their green and white.
"It was pretty crazy," Spicer said. "Most people were just so excited they just wanted to be out on campus. And walk around and show that they're for OU."
For the team, it's business as usual with practice and a shoot-around. But the players know the next game means so much more than games in the regular season.
"It just feels great," OU Junior Forward DeVaughn Washington said.
"We're still kind of living our dreams and don't really want to wake up. But its time to get back to business and get ready to go."
The OU coaching staff says they'll have their team ready to go for Thursday's match up against Georgetown.
"Our guys have a lot of pride," Head Coach John Groce said. "They're excited about the opportunity and the challenge of playing Georgetown. They're a terrific team. We're going to have to play a great game to get the job done on Thursday night."
