CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Gov. Joe Manchin appears ready to test his endorsement from the National Rifle Association.

On Tuesday, the governor said he would not rule out vetoing legislation the NRA championed to give gun buyers an annual break from West Virginia's 6 percent sales tax.

Manchin says the bill gives him heartburn and he's concerned about any measure that affects state revenues.

The bill passed just before the Legislature concluded its regular session Saturday. It would exempt firearms from the sales tax during the first weekend of each October.

But several lawmakers complained about the NRA's pressure behind the measure.

Some tax experts also fault such policies. Officials estimate it
would save consumers, and cost the state around $25,000 annually.

If the State wants to do a tax holiday, then do it on something that really matters to everyone - GROCERIES - GASOLINE. Do it regarding something important!
