FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- Education officials say Kentucky is the only state that reported increases in both fourth- and eighth-grade reading scores in a series of national achievement tests last year.

The Kentucky Department of Education on Wednesday released the state results from the 2009 National Assessment of Educational Progress.

Nationwide, reading scores for fourth- and eighth-grade students held mostly steady.

In Kentucky, on a scale from 0 to 500, fourth-graders scored 226, up from 222 in 2007. Eighth-graders scored 267, up from 262. Both scores are higher than the national average of 220 and 262, respectively.

I bet Enriqe is one of those bright West Virginia or Ohio residents. I know everytime I have to go to WV or SE Ohio it is just packed full of dirty rednecks. By the way for all of those who live in Southeast Ohio you live in the backwoods redneck trash part of the state. I lived in Columbus for several years and you guys have nothing in common with the rest of Ohio. Maybe you should join WV I think you guy would fit in to that state.

Yes, we have schools in Kentucky. We also teach students to capitalize our states names when writing them out.
