ORIGINAL STORY 4/2/10
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A custodian at Guyandotte Elementary in Huntington has been arrested and charged with stealing six laptop computers from the school.

Huntington Police arrested Billy Lee Gillenwater, 55, of Milton on Wednesday, according to Cabell County Magistrate Court documents.

The criminal complaint says that laptops were reported missing during an inventory by school officials.

It also states that Gillenwater admitted to stealing the laptops to the school principal and Huntington Police after members of the Milton Volunteer Fire Department reported that he sold a laptop to another member of the fire department for $50. Each IBM ThinkPad is worth $1500.

According to police, the laptops were taken on six different dates during March.

Gillenwater is charged with six counts of grand larceny. His bond was set at $10,000 on each count.

A preliminary hearing is set for April 12th.

A Cabell County Schools spokesperson says that Mr. Gillenwater has been suspended from his job at the school pending the outcome of the criminal proceedings.

Obviously, you haven't spent much time in a school...at least for the educational purpose. And as for students/families getting "free stuff"...they do...as required by WV Law...all children are entitled to a "free" public education...the students are given all the consumable supplies (paper, notebooks, pencils, crayons, etc.) free of charge, those who meet the criteria are also given "free" breakfast and "free" lunch. So, as you see, you really don't know a lot about the school system or its schools and what is available.

This is pretty sad!!! A child gets suspended from school if they take a note book and pencil off of a desk to use and they call it stealing. Come on now whats going on here? He steals all of these computers and nothing!!!! Sounds sorta fishy to me!!!

This guy is only one of many that steals from the schools. A nicer way of putting it is GOT or BORROWED from the school. People within the school system has been stealing from schools for years and years things such as time, money, food, toilet paper, soap, books, papers, pencils, pens, clips, rulers, lockers, tables, chairs, desks, and the funniest thing is even lice shampoo that the Health Dept.gives the schools to give out to the students and families for FREE when their is an out break of lice that the students or families are never told about nor gets. All this stuff seems to come up MISSING! The list goes on and the big stuff is not even listed. Could it be when people steal little things they don't consider themselves thieves because it is in the schools for everyones use, or for the students who can't afford it. Students and families use to be glad to get FREE stuff like papers, pencils, lice shampoo etc. Have you noticed students and families don't get this FREE stuff anymore!
