CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Residents and co-workers are pitching in to help an injured West Virginia State Police trooper with expenses while he recovers.
Cpl. Andy Pringle was hit by a passing vehicle during a traffic stop in Ritchie County on April 24. He remains hospitalized at a Charleston hospital.
Sgt. J.E. Stout says Pringle's co-workers at the Harrisville detachment started a bank account for the trooper's family after community members began bringing money to the office. Stout says some residents left money under windshield wipers on the troopers' cruisers or slipped it under doors.
Fundraising events are planned this weekend and next week, including benefit dinners and raffles.

Maybe he was hit for a reason sleeping with someones wife, stealing somthing, I know alot of troopers and there are very few that are honest, most are dirt bags. probably got what he needed, Im so sick of punk police officers.
Our state police are more worried abouut writting tickets than doing anything about real crime. If you live in the country and call the STATE POLICE for anything that may the least bit dangerous just wait and hold your breath waiting for them to get there. I will bet that you pass out befroe you get a STATE TROOPER to respond. Their are spred thin enough with worring about someone doing 5 mph over the speed limit. And then we wonder why the courts are tied up and letting real crimes out on the street. Good job STATE POLICE on writing traffic tickets and NOT doing anything about those who are truly breaking the law (VERY VERY VERY GOOD JOB).
Being the sibling of a retired trooper reading about this makes me sick to my stomach. If it is true about the 5th DUI why was this man not under the jail? Crazy. Of course there are those who bad mouth the State Police. They are out there daily risking their lives to make this state safer. There are good and bad in every profession. Doctors, teachers just to name a couple. God Bless this trooper and hopefully the judicial system will finally punish this guy by locking him up forever! And I dont want to hear about alcoholism being a diesease. This guy made a stupid decision and should pay dearly.
