KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- For people living along Poca Fork Road, they've faced one problem after another.
Along about a half mile stretch of the road, drivers have to navigate around two slips and a water covered roadway.
"The school bus has got to go by there and just has one lane," Jimmy Edens said. "If he makes one little mistake, well he could be in a ditch or over the hill."
Edens says the problems along the road aren't new, but the hassles that come along with them are getting old. In the last several years, he's seen about nine accidents near the road slips.
"Nobody has got killed so far, but it's a wonder," Edens said.
Jimmy's son owns Edens Body Works Inc. The road has been slipping into the businesses' driveway. Since the Division of Highways isn't responsible for their property, the owners have had to fix the issues on their own. It's a problem that's driving away customers and hurting their bottom line.
"I've had at least four that they said they'd come back when the road was fixed," Debbie Edens said.
The Division of Highways has put up signs and orange barrels to steer drivers away from the road hazards. Until funding becomes available, they won't be able to make a permanent fix.

I agree about the DOH they need to fix the roads every where. They need to be sued. Ive had all kind s of problems with my tires and the steering on my car because of all the pot holes in the road Ive paid out alot of money to get these things fixed, the mechanics even told me it was prob because of all the potholes, making the balljoints loose and very dangerous to drive. You either have to hit the pot holes or dodge them then you risk getting hit by oncoming traffic. This is ridiculous. Someone is going to end up getting hit or worse killed. Please DOH do something. Its even worse when you live in the community where there is coal trucks coming through, makes them even worse.
I feel for these people. Keep after them (the state road) Although I agree problems like this should be fixed ASAP (of course ASAP to DOH is like 7 years in doggy time) I would LOVE to see a PRIME CANDIDATE for Governor in 2012 take on the State Road finally and make our roads safe for EVERYONE, not just the chosen few! We pay the highest gas tax and receive the lowest representation....if I'm not mistaken this is taxation without representation, which I think is illegal according to the constitution? DOH has plenty of money if they'd spend it on and where its supposed to be spent NOT on private driveways-- lord if they (doh) would just cleanup the left over signs they leave when they DO FINALLY do a project,WV could save millions! Serioiusly tho'-- keep after them and contact your local delegates n Senators-- after all it IS election time -- which translated into WV terms means: only time you MIGHT get anything done! Good Luck!
