HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A claim about academic dishonesty at Marshall University is really testing the patience of four student athletes.

Three football players and a volleyball player have been officially charged with academic dishonesty by their teacher, Gregg Twietmeyer, after Twietmeyer says they studied for one of his tests -- using a test from a previous year.

The students received their charges by mail at the end of last semester and are appealing. Their appeal will take place this week by the academic board.

"I know instructors who are my personal friends who give out old exams. There are student organizations like the Chemistry Society that have old exams they distribute," Dean of Students Steve Hensley said. When it comes to each individual class, though Hensley said, "Each individual instructor has the responsibility of setting rules."

WSAZ.com contacted leaders at the University, as well as Twietmeyer. All said they had no comment. WSAZ.com also contacted the students. All four decided they would not speak publicly until after the appeal process is over.

All four students are on the Dean's list.
