CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Charleston Police are reminding drivers to refrain from leaving valuables inside their vehicles.

According to a news release, there has been a recent increase in car break-ins in the South Hills area of Charleston.

Car break-ins have been reported along Oakwood Road, Connell Road, Louden Heights Road, according to police. There have been similar problems reported at the South Ridge and Trace Fork shopping areas.

Charleston Police say drivers should always remove valuables from their vehicles or at least keep them out of sight and they should always keep their vehicles locked.

The police give good advise and Jenny's post is right on target. What we need are laws that severly punish those doing these types of crimes, even if they are minors. A person shouldn't have to spend a fortune to protect his stuff. There is no reason criminals like this, once caught, aren't given 10 years in prison at hard labor, in spite of what those 9 misguided justices says in Washington.

here is a novel idea used by other law enforcement across the country. get a bike worth a felonious amount of money, put it in the back of a sting truck and when someone nabs it... BAM instant felony charges. It'll at least get them off the streets for a couple of weeks.
