HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Thousands of dollars, 8 o'clock classes and late night cram sessions all paid off Saturday for thousands of new college graduates.

1,400 people were inducted into the Marshall University alumni society at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena Saturday morning. It was the herd's 173rd commencement. CNN Reporter and former WSAZ anchor, Sean Calebs was the commencement speaker.

At the University of Kentucky, nearly 7,000 graduates turned their tassels at Rupp Arena. Huntington native and UK star basketball player Patrick Patterson was among the graduates.

In Grayson, a smaller crowd walked across the stage to receive their diplomas at Kentucky Christian University. 80 people can now call themselves KCU graduates.

Next Weekend, May 15, West Virginia University students will get their chance to walk the stage.

For family members who can't make it to Morgantown, WVU will broadcast their commencement celebration live on the Web.
