CHESTER, Ohio (WSAZ) -- An Ohio community is trying to clean up and dry out after high water flooded their ball fields last weekend.
The Chester Ball Association in Meigs County serves about 100 kids between the ages of 4 and 14. Eight baseball and softball teams make up the organization.
Normally, the kids play on two fields located behind Baum Lumber, which is right next to the Shade River.
Mother and coach Sammi Mugrage says the fields don't flood every year, but they do flood more often than not. That's part of the reason why the association has long term goals to move the fields completely.
However, Mugrage says the kids still need somewhere to play this season, and they need help from the community to make the fields they have playable. They also don't want to put too much money into the fields, since they aren't planning on keeping them long-term.
Saturday was supposed to be the first home game, but since the fields are still in such bad condition, they had to move their games to the fields in Tuppers Plains.
Mugrage says they hope to fix up one field so they can play their first home game this coming Friday, but the second field sustained so much damage there is no way it can be ready by this weekend.
Mugrage says the Chester Ball Association hasn't scheduled a specific day for players and community volunteers to clean up. She says right now, people are just donating their free time as they can to help out.

Enough with negative talk. you can't fight mother nature. I hope everything goes well.cant wait for the new fields up on the hill. I think the board members out there now can get it done. Good Luck!!!
for people to blame the league Board is plain Stupid. They are doing a great job at getting things back together. The association will recover because those people care about the association, and have put in lots of their time rebuild & recover
Isn't that the reason they broadcast the weather and the weather is fully accessible from internet and cell phones. They only predicted heavy rains the entire week prior to the flooding. The children cannot be punished for the lack of responsibility of adults. I hope the association fully recovers for the benefit of the children.
