HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- It's no joke. A comedy club in Huntington has closed its doors, but the question is how long?
Tom Schaefer, who is the owner/operator of the Funny Bone, says it's all over a legal battle.
"Apparently, my name is not on the lease," Schaefer said. "They need to get my name on the lease, but they are tying my hands at this current juncture to get that to happen."
While the issue is battled out between lawyers, the owners of Pullman Square, Metropolitan Partners, say they have no comment on the on-going situation.
However, Schaefer says the fact is that he and his employees were locked out of the club, and left with no other options.
"There was no notice," Schaefer said. "No anything for this situation. I was completely in the dark until this situation was thrown on my lap."
Schaefer says when it comes to communication between he and the folks at Pullman Square, he feels he is getting no respect.
"We are being treated completely unfairly," Schaefer said. "With lots of disrespect, and no communication."
Schaefer says he hopes folks in the area will see the comedy club return, but it's just the where part that is still unknown.
"Chances are good that the Funny Bone will reopen," Schaefer said. "Whether it's in Pullman square or somewhere else is the issue."
WSAZ.com spoke with Summer Lacassio on the phone about the situation, she was a member of the Funny Bone wait staff. Lacassio told WSAZ.com that she had not been paid; in fact she said her check bounced.
Mr. Shaefer told WSAZ.com, he is trying his best to get Funny Bone employees back to work as quickly as possible.
Shaefer says he apologizes for the situation, but adds, he and everyone at the club were really left in the dark in this situation.
If the two sides don't come to an agreement, there's a good chance the Funny Bone will be forced to move to a new location.

OK, we miss our place to go out. You can open back up now. We need quality entertainment venues in the Tri-State....hello? Anyone there?
Part I 1,000 characters are very few, but I will see what I can do. It doesn’t seem to matter much, to all the people in a rush – to choose a side on which to stand and march behind a one-man band. Without the slightest piece of proof, in language that was quite uncouth – marched onward toward the Pullman Square in hope that Thomas would be there. To hear them chant and prance about, as each one passed and gave a shout. “My Check has bounced!” – “The bouncers rude!” – “I know the rent is way past due!” – “My steak was tough!” – “My drink was watered!” – “I didn’t get all the food I ordered!” The perfect storm had hit him hard, but he had saved his biggest cards to play the final hand in style – he took a step and flashed a smile. “From cash deposits far away, I wrote new checks – they’re here today. Included with a heart-felt thanks, I’ve added in some unearned Francs.”
Part II “The bouncer’s job is quite unique, measuring loudness as we speak - in a room that is filled with laughter - don’t be the guy that he is after!” “A piece of paper I had signed went missing for a long, long time, but now I have it back with me - my lawyer seen it he agrees, that when the final truth comes out the marching band will turn about.” “The outer view of steak can hide a piece of gristle deep inside and ice does melt and minds forget - we’re only human what the heck!” He knew that he had done his best, but wished he could retake the test: when cage fights didn’t draw away - a comic that had been well paid; and money due didn’t have to wait - as clearing houses reversed mistakes; and Billy had not locked the door – it seems this happened once before! “I bid you all a due for now, accepting shots across my bow; as time will tell when the lady tips the scale of justice - enjoy the trip!”
