POMEROY, Ohio (WSAZ) – A unique counterfeit money scheme is under investigation in Meigs County, Ohio.
Sheriff Robert Beegle says that last weekend a number of counterfeit $100 bill were passed in Meigs and Jackson Counties.
According to Beegle, the suspects were removing the ink from the front of a $5 bill and then printing the front of $100 bills. When the bogus bill is checked with a detection pen, the paper indicates the bill is good.
Beegle is encouraging store owners and clerks to hold $100 bills up to a light. He says In a real bill, you can see the watermark of Lincoln’s face.
As part of the investigation, Deputies were able to review surveillance video to identify a possible suspect.
Officers have arrested James Wolford of Jackson County on an unrelated charge. Right now, Wolford is charged with obstructing justice. Wolford has pleaded not guilty to the charge and released on $10,000 bond.
The Sheriff says additional arrests are expected.

Well, ya see hear I tink they made a movie like dat before call "Catch me if you can" and well that guy didn't really stop peoples from figuring out another way. On a personal note I didn't think Ray was that smart.
You know I've lived in the this county for a while now and I, like everyone else hear things about our county Sheriff's Office that can be uneasy to say the least, However I do hear a lot of good things about those Smith brothers. Maybe Sheriff Beegle shouid get his other guys in gear and this can be a good county again. Good job Meigs Sheriff's Office.
Wow!! That just amazes me cause he is my cousin, who would have guessed he would done do such a thing.
