WAYNE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- In a small beauty shop, in a small town, there's a small memorial for a larger than life tragedy.
Catherine Kinsey owns Cathie's Hair Care and Tanning in Wayne. In the corner of her salon is a display for the 29 miners whose lives were lost at the Upper Big Branch Mine in Raleigh County, W.Va.
Kinsey says it's a small token of appreciation.
"It's something that happened to all of West Virginia," she said. "It just didn't happen to them; it happened to all of us, and I just want them to know we care."
The memorial was set up with a tree decorated with names of the miners on black ribbons and a lot of mining memorabilia donated by
customers for the tribute.
The display was unveiled on Monday, May 10, and will be up for 29 days.

GOD BLESS THOSE THAT GO OUT OF THEIR WAY TO STILL SHOW SUPPORT AND LET THE FAMILIES NOW THAT THEY ARE CARED ABOUT. AND WE WILL NOT NEVER FORGET WHAT THEY WENT THROUGH, WHILE THE FFAMILIES ARE STILL SUFFERING IN GRIEF NOT UNDERSTAINDING WHY THIS HAPPENED TO THEIR LOVED ONES. DO UNTO TO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD WANT DONE UNTO YOU. WHEN YOU HELP OTHERS GOD WILL GIVE YOU KARMA FOR BEING THEIR FOR OTHERS. GOD BLESS YOU FOR DOING THIS.
