POCA, W.Va. (WSAZ) – A spokeswoman for Rite Aid Corporation says 31 “on-call” workers at the Poca distribution center will be laid off at the end of May.
The spokeswoman says these 31 people haven’t worked in the last five weeks. The termination is effective May 24th.
Rite Aid says this is a result of a recent evaluation of staffing needs at the Poca Center.
No other layoffs are anticipated at this location this year.
Approximately 300 people currently work at the plant. An exact number wasn’t immediately available.
On call workers had the potential to be called in on a daily basis, based on work volume or staffing needs.

All good paying jobs require college now days. Making a decent living is out of the question these days, without a degree. The government needs your student loan debt people, or suffer the forced slavery by corporate America
RITE AID MANAGEMENT IS THE BIGGEST JOKE THERE IS FOR MANAGEMENT.aND FOR ALL YOU PEOPLE WHO THOUGHT IT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN TO WELL HERES YOUR SIGN.AND AS YOU WALK OUT THOSE DOORS FOR THE LAST TIME WHEN THEY CLOSE REMEMBER YOUR FELLOW EMPLOYEES YOU TURNED YOUR BACK ON AS WE LOST OUR JOBS.FORGETTING ALL THOSE LONG HOT OVERTIME DAYS WE SWEATED TOGETHER AND WOKED SIDE BY SIDE. YOU PLAYED THE ROLE OF FRIEND TILL THE TABLE TURNED NOW WE KNOW WHO AND WHAT YOU REALLY ARE.i HAVE NO PITY ON YOU.YOUR JUST GETTIN WHAT YOU HAD COMING.hOWS IT FEEL?????
Is anyone suprised that they lied to the news? The people who were just laid off were also full time employees til 5 weeks ago. With many years in anywhere from 3 to 8 i beleive. And they have been called in around 3 times these past 5 weeks. When management had to cover their but. I was just laid off and had been there 5 years. Worked 13 hour days when the warehouse had all its stores. The stores aren't closing people, they are giving them to non-union warehouses. So u can't blame the economy when they are hiring sumone in another location to do the same job. I did get enjoyment out of seeing a few people that are now on the on call list. Those same ones that voted to get rid of our insurance. They will be counting hours now hoping to get enough. I am keeping tabs cause I can't wait till they shut the doors. Those lovely brothers and sisters that allowed this to happen will be in the same sinking boat they put us in. Karma is all I can say. Gotta Love it.
