UPDATE @ 5:30 P.M. TUESDAY
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A spokesperson with Verizon Communications says the company will close the intersection of 31st Street and Third Avenue in Huntington Tuesday night.
From about 10 to 10:30 p.m., repair crews will replace the damaged cables that came down when a back hoe and a semi got caught in them Monday morning.
ORIGINAL STORY
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Drivers coming into Huntington from the 31st Street Bridge or Route 60 East are being detoured Monday afternoon.
31st Street in Huntington is closed between 3rd and 4th Avenue.
Huntington Police say it’s due to a back hoe and a semi that got caught up in a phone cable and pulled the line down around 9:30 Monday morning.
Traffic will be detoured until repairs to the cable are made. Repair crews have still not arrived at the scene, according to police.
Police say the detour takes drivers down 8th Avenue in Huntington.
Drivers can also expect congestion in the area around 29th Street and 5th Avenue.

Latest Comments
it is not Verizon anymore, or at least after July 1st. do you think they really care? so do you really think Verizon is interested?
Has Verizon showed up yet? is it just the telephone cable and not the electric line? Got to go home soon and dread the traffic congestion.
Solution is simple. When the big telephone line got too low, fire dept gets out the sawzall and cuts it down. Then bill the phone company for the service.
