PORTSMOUTH, OHIO (WSAZ) -- A Bloom Township Trustee has been arrested and charged with theft in office.

Scioto County Sheriff Marty Donini says deputies arrested Ronald Rawlins, 52, of South Webster, last week.

Rawlins was charged with two counts of theft in office, a 4th degree felony. Rawlins is being held without bond and will appear in Common Pleas Court at a later date.

Sheriff Donini says his office received information back in March about a possible theft involving an elected trustee.

Donini says detectives began an investigation which included going over old records, watching surveillance videos and observing the suspect.

Detectives then submitted their case to a Scioto County Grand Jury which resulted in an indictment.

Anyone with any information concerning this theft can contact Detective Jodi Conkel at 740-351-1091. All calls will remain anonymous.

The Sheriff's office should conduct a thorough investigation of all trustees for the last several years to see if others are guilty of similar offenses. I suspect there is a systematic problem for which Mr. Rawlins has been singled out - let's get to the bottom of this so other criminal behavior is punished as well. I forgot what I was about to write - my Alzheimer's disease is starting to act up again.

First, I agree with Mr. Cool's statements. Second, honest thief???? No such thing, it is contradictory. Third, I am not sure how detectives are assigned cases, but I do know that all the detectives do a good job at Scioto County Sheriff's Office. Last, if the man admitted it to a grand jury, then he is admitting he did wrong, so how could that be the detective's fault? I don't care if it is drugs, theft, embezzlement, or murder, crimes happen and I feel that Mr. Rawlins confessed he needs to pay for his mistakes.

I agree with Mr. Cool a great job was done by the trustee's and sheriff's office. As for detective Conkel she is not only dedicated but goes the extra mile to make sure every case is handled the correct way. And just so you know she does not work in drugs so for you to say go arrest the drug heads well they have a drug detective that is a male and does a great job so get the facts straight. Mr. Rawlins might be a good man but he stole so he must now answer for what he has done and everyone needs to stop blaming those who work hard to keep our community safe. And no Mr. Rawlins was not singled out he got caught. I have been on grand jury and I know how hard our detectives work all hours of the night so I must say good job Sheriff's Office
