UPDATE 7/1/10 @ 8:35 a.m.
ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- The Athens County Sheriff says two men are in custody for their involvement in a recent attempted bank robbery.

Sheriff Pat Kelly says one of the men may also be connected to two other bank robberies since December.

Kelly is not releasing that person’s name, because he has not been officially charged. He is being held at the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail in Nelsonville on unrelated charges.

A published report says he is an 18-year-old man from Hocking County, Ohio.

The attempted robbery happened at the Hocking Valley Bank in Coolville on June 18th. That robbery was thwarted because the back door to the bank was locked.

The other robberies were at a bank in Glouster in December and at the Kingston Bank in Ross County this past Saturday.

The Sheriff says 35-year-old Richard Morgan has admitted to driving the getaway vehicle.

Morgan is also being held in the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.

Sheriff Kelly says that the motivation for the robberies was most likely to get money to buy drugs.

He says deputies tracked the stolen money to a drug house in the Nelsonville area.

ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- An attempted robbery occurred Friday afternoon at the Coolville branch of the Hocking Valley Bank, according to the Athens County Sheriff's Department.

Detectives say a person wearing a dark, face mask and gloves and carrying a handgun came inside the rear of the bank. They say the man then returned to his vehicle and left.

He is described as about 6 feet to 6 feet, 2 inches tall and weighing about 190 to 200 pounds. The vehicle is said to be a dark gray or blue 2010 4-door, Chevy Cobalt.

Anyone with information in this ongoing investigation is asked to call Athens County Sheriff's Detective Brice Fick at 740-593-6633 or contact him by e-mail at bfick@athenssheriff.com.
