UPDATE 6/24/10 @ 7:30 p.m.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A neighborhood is still on edge after a shooting that killed one man and landed another in the hospital.
Many neighbors on Charleston's West Side are still living in fear and worried of another shooting.
Police say they have patrols in that area of the West Side and are constantly watching for suspicious activities.
Lovell Drive was a whole lot quieter Thursday but the signs of what happened still remain.
"That area of the West Side has been active in the last 10 years," Charleston Police Chief Brent Webster said.
The crime reached a deadly level Wednesday when police say Charles Poore allegedly walked into a house on Lovell Drive and started shooting.
Poore was arraigned on Thursday, but didn't have much to say as the magistrate told him he would be charged with murder and malicious assault.
He's accused of shooting Robert Veltri in the head and Robert's brother, Antonio in the arm. Robert later died in the hospital.
Police say Poore also somehow managed to shoot himself and was seen in the video arraignment wearing a sling.
Neighbors are now questioning the amount of police protection in this part of town.
"I know that they're patrolling it and I see it on their activity logs," Webster said. "We just can't be on every street corner because we have other activity throughout the city too."
Police have been called to Lovell Drive more than 250 times in the last three years.
Nearly 25 were at the house where the shooting happened, however, police say the last call was more than seven months ago.
"From talking to our patrol folks to our drug unit and investigators, we had no probable cause to go in there and make an arrest," Webster said. "We were mindful of the home, we were looking at it and we had even done some surveillance there."
Police say criminals who are willing to open fire anytime, anywhere, have the upper hand.
Charles Poore was arrested once before for some minor offenses, but he won't be getting out of jail anytime soon.
His murder charge carries no bond. He is expected to be back in court on July 2nd.
The victim who died, Robert Veltri, had an extensive criminal background and arrested numerous times for having drugs and carrying dangerous weapons.
UPDATE @ 6/24/10 @ 10:30 a.m.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The man from St. Albans charged in connection with a triple shooting in Charleston had nothing to say during his video arraignment Thursday morning.
Charles Christopher Poore, 22, of St. Albans, is charged with first degree murder and malicious wounding.
Police say Poore shot Robert Veltri, 22, of Charleston, in the head. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.
Detectives say Poore also shot Antonio Veltri in the arm when the two struggled over the gun. Antonio is Robert's brother.
According to police, during the crime Poore somehow shot himself in the hand and later drove himself to St. Francis Hospital. That's where he was treated and later taken to jail.
Poore's arm was still in a sling when he appeared in court Thursday.
Detectives are still trying to determine a motive. They say the brothers were welcomed at the home, but Poore was not. Police also say all three men knew each other.
Preston Hugle was in the house during the shooting, but was not hurt.
According to the criminal complaint, Hugle told police a man he only knew by "Chedda" came into the house and had some words with Robert. Then, he heard two gunshots.
Poore won't be getting out of jail anytime soon. The first degree murder charge carries no bond. The Kanawha County Magistrate who arraigned Poore Thursday set a $50,000 cash only bond for the malicious wounding charge.
Poore is expected to be back in court on July 2 for his preliminary hearing.
WSAZ.com asked Poore to talk with us from jail about the charges, but he declined.

I sit here today and read all of these comments posted and it still hurts and stirs up hate and anger inside of me just like it did in 2010. It has been 1 year 4 months and 18 days since that terrible day. I did not loose a child to murder or to the penitentiary, but my whole life changed that day. I relized that someone I have known since he was in elementary school walked in my house and blew a hole through Leelee's head (a house he was in 1000 times before that day and felt safe enough to sit down, watch sports on TV, eat a meal, and even enjoyed a few tokes off of a smoke with Leelee). I learned that people are quick to want to put the blame on others without asking themselves where was I when he needed me most? I have come to relize in time that tomorrow is not promised and when trials & tribulations come up in life you are left standing all alone, and most of all I learned that I should have not lost control of my house, life, or responsibilities running behind a lame/broke/fake/swearing that he is trying to save the neighborhood children but can not save his own children MAN! Forreal! Yea I said it so what!
Enough with 'pointing the finger' so to speak. Even though the older generation says, 'they just needed a good whipping', obviously doesn't realize that today, is so much more different than yesturday. I, for one feel as if the mother did the best she could, but sometimes people get caught in certain situations and fall into traps that can ruin their life. This boy was human, just like the rest of you. And I'm not taking sides at all, but sometimes people just choose the wrong road. I'm sure everyone who has posted a comment knows atleast one person who lives a life like this, or similar to it. What I'm trying to say is, Don't judge. Especially the mother. She probably did all she could as a mother. Just because you punish your childern for wrong doing, doesn't mean they'll stop. I've seen it many times. Anyways, move on, it's the past. It's over, and Hopefully the families will be able to cope with this ordeal and move on peacefully.
ok guys its over and done with he is dead and gone hope everyone can just get over it and move on it a new day guys let the guy rest in peace
