CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Patients, doctors and visitors could soon find more parking available at Women and Children's Hospital in Charleston.
Charleston Area Medical Center requested a permit from the Charleston Board of Zoning Appeals on Thursday to establish a parking lot at 912 Pennsylvania Avenue. That's near the old warehouses beside the City Center West Building, just down from the hospital.
During the meeting Thursday, the board approved the permit.
The hospital is in the process of buying the property along Pennsylvania Avenue and demolishing the old warehouses.
Dale Witte with CAMC tells WSAZ.com the hospital still needs the Health Care Authority to approve the project. If the HCA gives the hospital the go ahead, CAMC can then purchase the warehouse.
Witte says CAMC wants to build a parking lot on that property.
CAMC hopes to hear a decision soon.

Be grateful you have a job and even received a raise in one of the worst economic recessions since the great depression.
I agree, we don't get paid enough as it is and then they offer us a minuscule 2% raise this past year. WV needs more jobs so CAMC can have some competition.
I don't understand how CAMC can purchase this and purchase that, but they can't afford to give their employees over a 2% raise???!!!!!!!!! I think it's terrible. We work really hard here, in all the areas of the facility. From the Dr's, the nursing staff, janitorial services, etc. The only thing we get is 2% at the most!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! COME ON!!!! I think it is very distastful on their part. It seems as if they are more concerned with purchasing this and that rather than paying us what we should be paid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
