LINCOLN COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- It may seem archaic, but for some families, it's a simple reality.
Clean water is not available.
However, Thursday ground was broken on a water extension project in the Griffithsville area of Lincoln County.
The project will give 150 families city water and eventually extend to 400 more families.
Lisa McGrady has been the force behind the water project for about four years now.
"We got out and got petitions signed,” McGrady said. “Then we worked a little on some phone calls, and it just all fit in together and we got it all worked out.”
Lincoln County Commission President Charles McCann says it took some effort to get money from the state flowing their way.
"What you have to do is convince someone your project is more important than someone else's,” McCann said. “That's hard to do sometimes."
Naomi Martin says she’s excited about the prospect of being able to drink her own water and wash clothes with it.
“It was like a golden dollar, if you’ve ever heard that expression,” Martin said. “I’m just tickled to death. I’m glad for this day.”
The project costs about 3.7 million dollars and is being funded through federal stimulus money.

I'd choose to serve all the people all the time. Everyone pays taxes and until the day they come to me or anyone I know and say: "O well, lets see, you live in an area that we aren't going to provide basic services for, so don't worry about paying ANY TAXES, real, property or anything else the rest of America is paying, because were not going to serve you! When that day comes? Then they have a right to NOT serve all the people all the time! Good lord man what country do YOU live in? Everything I read from you is negative towards America and Americans, needless to say prejudice and judgmental too! And we are talking water here. Did YOU even READ the story. Lot more than 5 people were talking about here. Cripes what an idiot!
Its simply a matter of numbers. If your going to choose between providing a service to a hollow where 5 families live or an area where hundreds of families live, which would you choose?
Yes Micajah as hard as it is to believe, there are MANY PLACES in WV that don't have the basic necessities. But then again this is WEST VIRGINIA where owning a car and having a telephone is still considered a luxury by D.H.H.R. and other agency's! And this is not a Republican/Democrat matter, we've had both and neither party has EVER considered WATER-SEWER-ROADS- a necessity NOT A LUXURY! HEY and if you have access to DSL or Cable? OMG You must be rich!!!! To be able to afford to live in a place that has such 'high end items'-- and people wonder why we get laughed at and made fun of so much! We can thank MOST, not all, of our 'in it for ourselves' politicians and also the people of WV hold some fault, for putting up with it for so long! I think it's time Granny went protesting myself!!!
