DENVER (AP) - Labor Secretary Hilda Solis is blasting BP and Virginia-based coal company Massey Energy for their recent disasters, saying they need to enact better safety measures and not make a profit "at the expense of killing" their employees.
At a conference of Latino government officials Friday in Denver, Solis said workers cleaning up BP's Gulf of Mexico oil spill include minorities who often don't have the interpretation services
they need to understand how to handle contaminants.
She called the workers a "vulnerable population" that needs to be protected, and that her office is directing BP to give them proper training in their spoken languages.
Eleven workers died when BP's Deepwater Horizon drilling rig exploded April 20. An explosion 15 days earlier at a Massey mine in West Virginia killed 29 men.
Massey spokesperson Jeff Gillenwater says his company hasn't and won't put profits over safety.

If they cannot speak English, the odd are high that they are illegal aliens. With that in mind, let them work all they want in the toxic areas. Maybe that way we can get rid of a few of them. If you are an illegal alien and in the United States, then I have no sympathy for you. So, whatever it takes to rid our country of the illegal parasites, so be it.
Anderson Coopers guest last night couldn't have said it better! O wait, he did, in almost those exact words...BTW we've all known this for 67 days now. I think they have enough over thinkers already. What they need is some common sense approach to this matter and speak to people used to dealing with sludge spills. It's basically the same principal and is used almost everyday of the week across the country. That's where they came up with the idea for the marsh collection of oil, from sewer plant operators.
Sir: I read the scientific report, the method in flow measurement is not dependable. I think they are guessing. I believe BP has to do the spill oil collection direct over the well head down at sea base or just at a balanced position in order not to divert the dome’s position by spill flow force and to be able to suck the maximum quantity of the spilled oil. This collector dome should be heavy weight. This well cannot be closed now, maybe years later. The well’s construction at sea bottom down to oil is damaged by the explosion. BP should note the explosion energy had destroyed surface equipment. I believe BP has to focus on sucking most of the spilled oil directly into big oil tankers equipped with gas separator, or to inject collected spill oil into a nearby oil well. Now they found out that %40 of the spill is Methane (gas) I believe this spill will get longer and longer and the flow will increase even beyond 100000 B/D, meanwhile all my aim is to correct this disaster asap. I hope BP will prepare to apply this comment along applying there program.
