BECKLEY, W.Va. (AP) -- Mountain State University is honoring its longtime president by naming its school of leadership after him.

Charles Polks came to Mountain State in 1990 when it was a small, two-year institution known as Beckley College. He has helped build it into a four-year university offering bachelors, postgraduate masters and doctoral degrees.

Polks helped grow the school from 60 full-time employees, to its current 500 full-time and 1,000 part-time positions. Student enrollment also has increased to 9,000 on its various campuses.

Mountain State is the first university in the nation to offer a doctoral program in executive leadership. The university's School of Leadership and Professional Development will bear his name.

Maybe you should identify him correctly. It is POLK, not POLKS.
