HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Marshall has hired its first director of Military and Veterans Affairs.

Kelly Sweetman-Nekvinda comes to Marshall from Copper Mountain Community College in Joshua Tree, Calif. Before arriving at Marshall, the New Zealand native worked with active duty marines.

Marshall Dean of Student Affairs Steve Hensley says Sweetman-Nekvinda will work with former and current veterans from all branches of service and with students considering a military career after receiving their degrees.

Well, I think it's fantastic that we have a Director to help the military. I can't imagine anyone responding negatively towards her since she just got to Marshall. Maybe you applied and didn't get the job so that explains the hostility, but if you read up on Mrs. Sweetman-Nekvinda she is definitely qualified and experienced for the position. Anyone on campus that is here to help veterans is essential. I look forward to getting to know her.

A veteran director is greatly needed on campus. I receive GI benefits and the Reps are incredibly disorganized and completely unhelpful. They make enrolling and getting your classes confusing and inconvenient, hopefully she will implement some changes to make receiving your benefits much easier.
