CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - The ex-chairman of a now-defunct partnership that aimed to provide broadband Internet service in West Virginia and Ohio has admitted to misleading an investigation into the misuse of federal grant money.

Alan Michael McPeek, now president of Mountain State College in Parkersburg, pleaded guilty Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Charleston to obstruction of justice.

In return, federal prosecutors dropped charges of obstructing a federal audit and perjury.

McPeek formerly was chairman of the board of Sequelle Communications Alliance. He was accused of trying to thwart a federal probe into Sequelle's handling of nearly $3.3 million in federal grant money.

McPeek faces up to five years in prison. Sentencing has been set for Oct. 19.

He won't do one hour of jail time. White collar criminals in W.Va. rarely do. The real crime is how easy it was for these scammers and career criminals to get government 'officials' to give them money.

Question...will Mr. McPeek remain President of Mountain State College? I surely hope not...his misuse of federal dollars and another teacher selling GED's......now, that's an education...!!!!!

At five years in jail, that amounts to $660,000.00 per year in misuse! How many people get paid $660K per year to sit in jail? (And you wonder why your Internet service is so behind the times?)
