A Haz-Mat crew responded to a small chemical leak at the Olive Hill Wastewater Treatment Plant about 8 am Thursday morning.

Carter County 911 Director, Tommy Thompson tells us that a small amount of sulfur dioxide leaked from a tank with a loose valve.

Thompson says a worker had changed tanks when it began to leak.
The worker was able to quickly evacuate the building.

A Haz-Mat crew from Boyd County was called-in to shut off the leak.

Thompson says the reason the spill was handled so well is that emergency workers had a mock drill last at the plant.s
