UPDATE 5/26/11 @ 12:05 p.m.
ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- An Athens County village official has been sentenced to four years in prison for stealing money from the village where he worked.
Athens County Prosecutor Dave Warren tells WSAZ.com that Robert Sayre, a former fiscal officer for Jacksonville, in Athens County pleaded guilty Wednesday to grand theft, theft in office and tampering with records.
This stems back to last summer when officials say Sayre sent village officials a letter saying he committed fraud.
The charges were dismissed against Sayre last July, but earlier this week, Prosecutor Warren filed a bill of information against him.
Warren tells WSAZ.com that Sayre has paid $90,000 in restitution. $38,000 was for the money he took from Jacksonville. The rest covers audit and other costs associated with the crime.
Sayre will report next week to start serving his sentence.

ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A village official who allegedly took money from Jacksonville has been taken into custody.
WOUB reports that Robert Sayre turned himself in to a detective in Gallia County on Monday.
Athens County deputies brought him back and took him to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.
Sayre had been the fiscal officer for Jacksonville.
According to WOUB, someone wrote an unsigned letter saying he took money from the village, and officials think that it was Sayre.
"Mr. Sayre sent a letter in basically saying that he committed fraud, stole from the village, it was his fault and he did that by lying and forgery," said Rob Driscoll, the Chief Assistant Prosecutor for Athens County.
Sayre has been charged with tampering with financial records, a misdemeanor.
