CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A heat wave is expected to really start cranking this week and health officials are warning people to be safe and drink lots of water.

The Director of the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department, along with the Kanawha County Ambulance Authority and Metro 911 held a news conference on Tuesday to warn the public about heat dangers.

Dr. Rahul Gupta says if you're outside you should wear light/loose clothing, drink lots of fluids and apply sunscreen often.

Also, health officials say if you don't have to go outside you should stay indoors where it is cooler. They encourage people to do more indoor activities such as going to the mall, library or movies.

Profuse sweating, fatigue, thirst, muscle cramps are all symptoms of heat illness, according to health officials.

The heat wave is expected to continue through the end of the week.

Well, if the government is going to continue to allow companies to manufacture cigarettes, as well as profit off the taxes, then we (as smokers) she be treated the same! The tax dollars our smoking habit brings in, which the habit isn't a good one- I agree, probably helps fund something you associate yourself with or use everyday!! (schools, roadwork, medicare, etc.)

I am glad that the seniors are moving their picnic indoors. I wasn't going to let my mother attend if outdoors. Alot of seniors were not going to attend if outdoors, it would have been too dangerous.

To the responder below, if smokers cared about their health they wouldn't be smoking in the first place.
