HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- An NFL superstar and a NBA superstar came home this week to help those in need.
Randy Moss and OJ Mayo were in Huntington Tuesday morning to distribute food and personal care items as part of the “Feed the Children” program.
The pair spent much of the morning at the AD Lewis Center helping nearly 800 families.
On Wednesday, they will be in Charleston at the Union Ministries for another giveaway starting at 9 a.m.
The 1600 families, who were pre-identified, are receiving a 25-pound box of food, a 10-pound box of personal care items, and a box of Avon products.
According to “Feed the Children,” one in three children in Huntington and one in four children in Charleston are considered impoverished.
Moss, who is from Rand, currently plays in the NFL for the New England Patriots.
Mayo, who is from Huntington, currently plays in the NBA for Memphis Grizzlies.

Randy, I watched you play ball when you were a kid. My son played midget league also, So.Chas, and your coach was a good friend of mine. You were a good kid fighting a hard battle in Rand. You think a lot of us looked down on you and that was not true. We sincerely wanted the best for you, and knew you had talent. I am glad you came home, and I thank you for helping the people in this area, Huntington, who cannot provide for themselves. Same to OJ Mayo. However, Randy, we all in out infinite wisdom sometimes want to kick ourselves in the butt for making a statement or doing something we shouldnt. I know you fought hard, and it made u a better man. It hurt as a child, when it shouldnt have. But I, as a West Virginian are proud you are from here, and glad you come home to help people or visit family and friends. I hope you remember there were a LOT of us rooting for you whether you believed it or not. Bythe way, I am a football MOM, not a dad, but still was for you. Thank you.
