CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Tri-State Casino & Resort has a new name. The resort in Nitro is now called Mardi Gras Casino & Resort.
According to a news release, the property's name change is part of an overall re-branding initiative designed to better represent the facility and position it as a destination resort.
“The addition of table games and our new hotel have launched this resort to a whole new level. We want to provide a distinctive experience for guests as they enjoy all the services we have to offer,” said Dan Adkins, vice president, Hartman & Tyner, the casino’s parent company. “The new name helps convey our Mardi-Gras style party atmosphere and better promotes the wide variety of activities available at this entertainment complex.”
WSAZ.com reported on Thursday that the casino and resort will begin 24 hour operations July 11. The new hotel will open by the end of the month.
Back in February 2008, before the track offered table games, the company announced it would change its name to "Mardi Gras Gaming." That was the same name as a Greyhound racetrack used in Florida.
However, since then there has not been any changes to signage.
A spokesperson tells WSAZ.com the track decided to just use it as a tag line until the hotel was built.
This time signs are already changing with the new name.
Susan Lavenski tells WSAZ.com one of the signs have already changed, but the others won't be replaced for a few more weeks. All of the posters and signs inside the track have also been replaced.
