LAVALETTE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Some will tell you the economy has gone to the dogs. One local man has taken a unique spin on that and made it work in his favor. He calls himself the pick-up artist and let's just say he's created a business around your doggy's business.
“My friends say it's a crappy business. But, I just say ‘ha, ha, ha, like I’ve never heard that before,” said Travis Brown.
Travis has a good sense of humor when it comes to his job.
“They say, ‘Hey, your last name is Brown. That must be a good business to be in Brown,” said Travis.
When you're a glorified pooper scooper, a healthy dose of laughter goes a long way! Travis calls himself the Pick-Up Artist, but there’s not much art going on here. He runs a professional pet waste removal company.
“I saw this in other places and realized it was big business. Pets have their regular spots so you get to know where to go after awhile. I keep everything sanitary so that I never have to touch anything with my bare hands. For really bad jobs, I even wear a mask,” said Travis.
Travis is a full-time teacher. But, he's also a recent single father and needed some extra money to help care for his son.
“I would do anything to make sure my son has what he needs. Even if it means picking up poop, that’s what I would do,” said Travis.
But, professional waste removal is about much more than just picking up poop. It has real benefits for your lawn and the family.
“The number one benefit is ridding your yard of parasites,” said Travis.
Bottom line, Travis makes Fido’s #2 his #1 priority. Travis says depending on the size of your yard, his average charge is about $10 a dog per week and he'll come as often or as little as you need him.
For more information, you can call the Pick-up Artist at 304-412-1125.
