MARTIN, Ky. (WSAZ) -- For the first time ever, the Floyd County School district is holding a job fair -- trying to recruit qualified people to drive school buses.

"We're just about in panic mode," Rick Hancock said. "We're desperate for drivers."

Hancock is a driver trainer with the Floyd County School district.

"We're about 14 routes short for the beginning of the year," Hancock says. "We really need bus drivers."

Here are some of the benefits of being hired as a driver:

  • Starting salary of $14.37 an hour
  • Unemployment and workers comp and liability insurance
  • Retirement plan
  • Group health and life insurance

The next job fair will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 23. It will take place at the Floyd County Bus Garage in Martin.

No problem getting Bus Drivers in WV. Good pay, health insurance, retirement. What does KY offer? The problem in WV is you cain't get the old guys and gals to retire...if that is a problem.
